Theodor Seuss Geisel: Dr. Seuss
Who is "Dr. Seuss" ? Theodor Seuss Geisel is the beloved author that changed children's literature forever. Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1904. Geisel graduated from Dartmouth College in 1925, and then attended Oxford University where he met Helen Palmer, whom he wed in 1927.Geisel then gained fame by publishing cartoons for a popular humor magazine in America.

In 1937 while on a cruise ship, Geisel came up with his idea for his first children's book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. During World War II, Geisel joined the army where he wrote documentaries about the war.

In 1954, Geisel's publisher saw a report published in Life on illiteracy among schoolchildren. The report implied that children had trouble reading because the books couldn't keep their attention. Nine months later, Geisel published The Cat in the Hat, which changed children's books forever and brought Dr Seuss instant success.

Geisle is a Pulitzer Prize winner and has three Academy Awards.  He's authored and illustrated over 40 children's books.
