Violet Comes to Stay (Mitford for Children, Book 1) Review
Violet Comes to Stay is the first in a series of storybooks inspired by Cynthia Coppersmith, Father Tim’s wife from Jan Karon’s bestselling Mitford Years series. Jan Karon’s legions of fans will love this timeless story about the endearing white kitten named Violet, charmingly written by Melanie Cecka and beautifully illustrated by Caldecott Medal-winning artist Emily Arnold McCully. Karon searched for three years to find a storytelling voice and art style authentic to Cynthia Coppersmith. She was personally involved in every step of the creation of this book. In Violet Comes to Stay, Violet’s search for the perfect home leads her to a plant nursery, a bakery, and finally a bookstore—the one place where the gentle cat isn’t expected to be a mouse hunter. User Submitted Violet Comes to Stay (Mitford for Children, Book 1) ReviewsMarch 10, 2008 Adorable Story Gently Teaches Young Children This is a gentle story, beautifully illustrated, about growing up and finding the place one is meant to be. The story of the white kitten Violet and her siblings teaches us that we each have special talents and gifts, and although it may take some trial and error, if we keep seeking, we will find the perfect place to use them. Talking with young children about the story will provide parents opportunities to help them discover their unique gifts/talents/skills, to build confidence, and to set them on that lifelong path of seeking. Plus, it's an adorable story! February 5, 2008 my daughter loves this classic I purchased this for my two year old daughter and she has really enjoyed it. I love reading it as well since I am a big "Mitford" fan. What a sweet gentle story! January 8, 2008 For all ages This is a very sweet story. Anyone who has read any of the Mitford series has wondered exactly what a story by Cynthia Coopersmith would be like. This story, along with its illustrations, are exactly what she sould produce. It's not just a children's picture book. The simple and soothing story is for all ages. October 22, 2007 If you are a Mitford fan, you may like. Cute illustrations. Story about killing mice was not appealing to my children. They didn't like the book. October 20, 2007 Wonderful Book This is a wonderful book for children ages 6-9. Being a big Mitford Fan, I'm glad to see Cynthia Coppersmith's fictional "Violet the cat series" come to real life! September 7, 2007 Jan Karon is 24 Karat! As always, Jan Karon has written a lovely book. I am not a book buyer, but am finding that anything with her name on it ends up in my personal library. This would make an excellent holiday gift for any children in your lives. August 30, 2007 Jan Karon not the author My husband ordered the book as a surprise for me because I have Jan Karon's other books, both for adults and children. I am unhappy that this was by another person and touted with Jan Karon's name at the top. I feel that was misleading. It was tiresome in content and my granddaughter walked away while she sits through Jan's books. March 29, 2007 A warm hug Loved it. Grab your favorite cup of tea and give yourself permission to read it with your inner child. March 13, 2007 A Cat for All People The feline Violet of the Mitford series comes to life in this wonderful children's book. It's illustrations are so wonderful. Maybe others of my generation will rejoice in the fond memories which the water colors then highlighted with pin and ink provide from elementary school reading books. The story is gripping one of a cat that is not so into being like the rest of his siblings, not into mice catching. But God has a special place planned out. Well done story with great applications for the young reader to be exposed to. Could become classic? For you and your children, if not all of God's kids! Enjoy! January 14, 2007 Exquisite and Touching...... For young and old readers... darling story, Exquisite illustrations touches your heart strings and they will sing to your soul.....cat and pet lovers alike... Enjoy..... one and all......
