User Submitted The Relatives Came ReviewsSeptember 17, 2008 The Relatives Came--picture book A picture book for ages 4-7, and perfect for adults of any age, the story of family visiting brims with positive energy, and is vividly descriptive of the sights and sounds the visitors brought. "The Relatives Came" provides material for discussion of family roles and expectations. I sent the book to my sister after our family had come through some intense time together. August 25, 2008 Great Transaction! I'm giving this book to lots of grandmothers!! All 7 arrived quickly and it was a great transaction. July 19, 2008 Feel good story that my kids love This is one of my favorite books and also of my daughters. The illustrations are beautiful, and the heart warming story of family visits, appreciation and love just makes you feel good. I like this book so much that I will add more Cynthia Rylant books to our home library. May 31, 2008 I've given it as a gift twice We're from a large family and the images and descriptions of the family reunion really touched home. I've given it to two different sets of nieces and nephews, and hope they'll have the same great stories to tell about our family that Cynthia Rylant relates. May 25, 2008 I love this book I bought this book to use for a discussion about how authors can paint pictures with their words. My first graders loved this book and we were able to talk about our favorite parts in the book and all the children can relate because they have either gone to visit relatives or relatives have come to visit them. They loved the pictures and the story! March 25, 2008 Delightful Story I love this book, especially for kids with big families. As an adult from a big family it is equally fun to read. This account of the journey and the visit at the relatives' house is written from a refreshingly honest child's point of view. A completely delightful read-to book. I bought a copy for all my kids with children. February 11, 2008 The Relatives Came book review This story is about some family members from Virginia came down to some other relatives that lived far away and the family from Virginia was staying for a couple of weeks. They finished with eating, playing, and hugging. At the end of the story, the family from Virginia goes back to their house, and wait `til next summer. I liked this book because the book was about family time and this book will be good for any kid at anytime. November 20, 2007 Great Story starter Can be the inspiration for many writing ideas- character sketches of family members, preparing for guests, positives and negatives of having company, missing those who live far away, family traditions, what do you all do when you get together, etc. I use it for a writing springboard for my 4th grade class. November 3, 2007 Love This Crazy Wonderful Family This is a lovely, funny story about going to visit relatives that live far away (you never do find out where they are), and what happens when you get there. From going through a long line of hugging, to eating everything in sight, to the getting-to-know-you looks, to bunking down wherever there's a space. The text is warm and descriptive and the illustrations are evocative and amusing. I am lucky enough to have a family of extended relatives like these, and this books rings very true! July 31, 2007 Highly Recommended We found this book second hand somewhere - and when we read it, we knew we had discovered a treasure. We took it to my sister's - read it outloud to only adults.
