It is a great way to teach word recognition and promotes fast reading so they practice, then they enjoy challenging the whole family to read the book. As a homeschool mom I appreciate any book that encourages my boy to read! Love that Dr. Seuss October 4, 2008 Too funy This was the funniest book I have ever read. I found it in the Doctors office and was going to check it out for my grandsons to see if I needed to order it. I sat in the office and laughed out loud, then came home and ordered the book. My daughter and son in law are also delighted with this book and enjoy reading to the grandchildren. August 4, 2008 Two boys' review: Rhyme Time at Bedtime! There's so much silliness and tongue twisting going on in "Fox in Socks" that my 5-year old and 4-year old end up rolling around in their beds because they laugh so hard. This is one of my sons' favorite bedtime books. Initially, the book provided new vocabulary but, now they have got the book nearly memorized, the main attraction is the tongue-twisting rhymes Mr. Fox delivers. You can't read "tweetle beetle puddle paddle battle" without any seriousness and that's the point of Dr. Suess books. Check the seriousness at the door and dive into the silliness with your children. I recommend you add these Dr. Suess books to your kids' bookshelf: One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish Green Eggs and Ham Hop on Pop The Foot Book The Cat in the Hat August 3, 2008 Take it slowly - this book is DANGEROUS! This book is nothing more than a list of tongue twisters. Each set of tongue twisters gets progressively harder and harder (not to mention more and more disastrous in the illustrations) until Mr. Knox throws his hands up in frustration, and it all starts over again. Definitely read it before you read it aloud! I'd also recommend this book for the late stage of early readers - the words are just simple enough for them to actually be able to read them, while the wordplay is tricky enough to make it a really fun challenge. There are a few minor concerns. First of all, the fox really is a nasty character, and uses language that I know some parents object to - calling Mr. Knox dumb, that sort of thing. And of course it shows some violence in the tweedle beetle battle. This sort of thing doesn't concern me, but if it does concern you, as always, read before you buy. July 22, 2008 Silly fun and word play nicely combined Even though this book doesn't leave a meaningful message like many other Seuss books (Horton Hears a Who, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Yertle the Turtle, etc), it's still loads of fun to read. I bought this for my son when he was still a baby, and for a couple of years he didn't understand it and wasn't interested. Now that he's 3y.o. and into imaginative play, he loves it when we read the creative tongue-twisters of Fox in Socks, and tries to read along though it's still a bit difficult for him (some of the rhymes are difficult for me too if I read them quick!). Like all Seuss books, the rhymes, characters and silly stories are very creative and an incentive for children and adults to play with the imagination. July 8, 2008 Love Dr. Suess My children love this book, it sounds alot like some famous rappers. (Since it rhymes, ha!) November 28, 2007 A Great Seuss Book for a Child Interested in Tongue Twisters - a review of "Fox in Socks" This is a GREAT tongue-twister book for children still learning to read. Here's an example of what you will find. New socks. Two socks. Whose socks? Sue's socks. As with most Seuss books the words the sentences start out simple and then get more complicated so that children can sort of 'warm up' to the reading. Here's a sample from later on. Through three cheese trees three free fleas flew. While these fleas flew, freezy breeze blew. Freezy breeze made these three trees freeze. Freezy trees made these tree's cheese freeze. That's what made these three free fleas sneeze. (My tongue actually got tired--LOL!) The Accelerated Reading (AR) designation for this book is 2.1 which means that it is essentially a book for beginning Second Graders. [It's fun for a whole range of readers though.] Four Stars [B+] ::: Written at the 2nd Grade level, this Dr. Seuss book is great fun for anyone interested in tongue twisters. October 7, 2007 Great book This is a really fun book to read to your preschool / pre-k child. It's really enjoyable - both for the parent reading it (for the 10th time) and for the child listening to it. My child loves it. I often buy it as a gift for other children. September 3, 2007 Graphic SF Reader The Fox is certainly a better vulpine than I am, given that I couldn't stand running around with socks on my feet. This incongruity is perhaps part of why I found this book highly amusing as a very young kid, so, a good fun production by Seuss. July 4, 2007 Classic Seuss The very same seuss poetry we read to our children 30 years ago, we are now reading to our grandchildren. Thank you Amazondotcom for your fantastic bargains!!!!!!!!!!
