Alphabet (Paula Wiseman Books) Review
In Matthew Van Fleet's incredible new multiconcept book, over 100 creatures and plants from A to Z hilariously demonstrate action words, synonyms, opposites, and more. Young explorers are challenged to spot four plants or animals that begin with each letter of the alphabet. Twenty-three textures plus foils, flaps, pull tabs, and even a scratch-and-sniff scent add to the interactive surprises on every page. User Submitted Alphabet (Paula Wiseman Books) ReviewsDecember 14, 2008 Continuously Entertaining! We bought this book and "Tails" for our 7 month old daughter (that's right...very young) and it has continuously entertained her for the last month! She loves flipping through the pages and feeling all of the different textures or seeing the moving parts (like a warthog shaking its head back and forth). We have bought this book for other little ones we know and they too (as well as their parents) have enjoyed it. I highly recommend it! October 21, 2008 Cute and STURDY! This book is a top of the line pop-up. A great gift item for 18 mos to 3 years old. My 3 year old son really paid attention. September 23, 2008 A fun-filled book fro toddlers Like Van Fleet's previous book Tails, Alphabet is a great hands-on book for toddlers. On each page are creatures and things that all begin with a specific letter of the alphabet. There are movable parts, scratch and sniff and many "touchable" parts. The bonus popout poster that is included in the book make the price worth it. My 2 year old loves this book - we highly recommend it. September 21, 2008 Loved by our granddaughter, age 2 My granddaughter reads this book often--it is one of her favorites. The wall chart that comes with the book is hanging in her room and she is often seen looking it over and lifting all the chads. Excellent learning tool. Jerry Resnick August 28, 2008 Very creative alphabet book I hadn't seen this book but it is rated #1 children's book on NY Times. Definitely worth it--good illustrations, some hands-on stuff, a poster. July 26, 2008 Awesome book - Matthew Van Fleet has done it again! My 2.5 yr old loves all the Matthew Van Fleet book (Tails, One Yellow Lion, Yellow Spotted Frogs), so I was very excited to see another new book of his. This one is really great... very cleverly made. Teaches about alphabet, animals, colors, textures and so on. I would recommend it to one and all. June 4, 2008 MY GRANDSON LOVES THIS BOOK I purchased this book for my grandson, and we have had many great times sharing this book. The book is well illustrated and durable. May 29, 2008 Another great one from Matthew Van Fleet We just got this book a few days ago and we absolutely love it! My son is one year old, and "Tails" and "Dog" were his favorite books. And by favorite, I mean the only books he would sit still for. He loves to touch the soft animals, and other things. This book did not let us down! He enjoyed "Alphabet" just as much!! I love that it came with a poster too. He is too little to enjoy that yet, but I think he will really like all the pop ups when he gets older! Great for little toddlers, and great for gifts! May 16, 2008 "T" is for terrific! What a great book! You can learn about the alphabet as well as fun and friendly animals all in one place. The concept and pictures are very much like "Tails", another great book by Van Vleet, so if you were a fan of that book, you will like this one as well. The author rhymes his way through the alphabet with visual and tactile delights, while describing animals--some familiar and some slightly off the beaten path. Your child will love the friendly illustrations of alligators, dragonflies, elephants, and frogs, while you will scratch your head and wonder how you could have gone your while life and never heard of a quahog, uacaris, or xenops--all great new Scrabble words! The fact the he chose "zorillas" for the letter "Z" and not the standard "zebra" you would find in most children's books shows that he refuses to "dumb down" a book--instead challenging young children with new ideas. What I really like the most about this book is that it can "grow" with your child. Very young children will enjoy touching the different textures and making the kangaroos "jump". Older children will enjoy looking back through the book for the challenge of finding other alphabet word pictures that the author provides in the back of the book. You also get a 21-inch color poster included with the book that has pop-ups of the animals with corresponding letters that you can use to teach letters (or animals for that matter) to hang in an older child's room. A very worthy investment for your home library. May 9, 2008 Visually appealing alphabet book This book is both visual & tactile for child. Teaches alphabet, includes poster & other activities searching for various other animals, objects, vegetation using the alphabet. The book is well made so hopefully after many readings the 'pop-up features' remain in tact. The illustrations are also well done. For more Alphabet (Paula Wiseman Books) reviews click here.
