A fanciful foray into the imagination of a child can be found in the delightfully written and dazzlingly illustrated new children's book, The Sleep Ponies. Author/illustrator Gudrun Ongman, a professional sculptor and painter, has transformed her mother's bedtime tale into a lyrical myth about magic ponies that carry children away to golden fields of dreams. The sweet story, the evocative, description prose, and the warm, soft watercolors all combine to captivate both parent and child as they journey together to the land of The Sleep Ponies.

Beautiful!
The Sleep Ponies is a magical, warm, and absolutely beautiful book. The dream-like illustrations and gentle rhythm of the words lulls my girls to sleep at night.

This book ought to be on the shelf of every child's bookcase.

Highly recommended!

Wonderful night time story
For a granddaughter who loves riding, this was an especially charming bed time story. The descriptions were delightful.

A child's library should include this book
A beautiful story for bedtime with magical illustrations that captivated even my 11 month old niece. I enjoyed reading it to her as much as she liked hearing it!

Cozy Bedtime Read
A great book that helps children and their parents create and share a quiet moment before bedtime. It provides pleasant thoughts to sleep on and sweetens any bedtime routine with its beautiful illustrations and dreamy adventures.

Help your imaginative child get to sleep!
This beautiful story gave my creative 8-year-old daughter (who loves horses)a new way to be willing to fall asleep. When she asks me (nightly) "How should I fall asleep tonight, mama?" I can answer, "Just call your sleep ponies." The writing is young for her level of reading, but I think keeping it simple at bedtime is the way to go, anyway. It's not time to rev up the thinking mind, after all, just the dreaming mind.

Fantastic
This is a wonderful book. The illustrations are beautiful, and best of all, this story has taught my daughter to go to sleep on her own.

Every child will want their own Sleep Pony!
Where was this book when I was a little girl dreaming of her own pony?
With lyrical text and dreamy art children will be lulled to sleep in hopes of finding their own sleep pony. Thank you Ms. Ongman for showing me how to call mine.

Great idea, poorly executed
I love the idea of a pony coming to a child in a dream. And the pictures are great. But the wording style is dificult for adults to read, much less a child. I need children's book that a child can read.

The Sleep Ponies is one of the greatest children's books ...
... I've ever read. I am so glad that my cousin told me about it. It will be a beloved addition to our library and one I can't wait to share with my grandchildren. You also need to read the second book called "Sleep Pony Dreams" that tells the story from the ponies side - it is also great. These are two must haves if you have children/grandchildren that love horses!
