The Kingfisher History Encyclopedia Review
This authoritative reference book brings world history to life, from early humans to the current war on terror. Along the way, it reveals riveting facts on the founding of the great Roman Empire, the revolution that changed France forever, the war between the North and South that unified America, the start of World War I and the Great Depression that followed, the first moon landing, and the end of apartheid in South Africa. The encyclopedia is organized chronologically and then thematically within each time period. A timeline runs across the top of each page. Each section includes biographies of important people and features on art, architecture, and technology. User Submitted The Kingfisher History Encyclopedia ReviewsSeptember 18, 2008 The Kingfisher History Encyclopedia We're using this for our 5th grade History studies and the level of the test is well suited to the 10-11 year old capacity for detail. I like how each time period is started with a 2page spread of a world map and a general summery of what was going on everywhere. THe time line that runs across the top of the book is aso a helpful item. We are homeschoolers, using this as a base textbook but could see it as helpful for any young student trying to pull together all the diffrent ideas and events from arroung the world that they have heard about up untill now. July 3, 2008 Great I love this book. I am a homeschool mom who is using this for a history spine for our world history studies. This book is packed full of information with colorful photos. Each topic has two page spread. Timelines are made very easily with this book. November 7, 2007 disappointment Do not...I repeat do not waste your money on this book. The information in it is so sparse, it's hardly worth opening the pages. September 7, 2007 LOVE This Book!!!! Excellent reference book. Spectacular graphics and handsome book. Glad I got this one!!!! August 13, 2007 Good book We love this book. It is full up with all sorts of great info. A nice addition to any home. Great for homeschooling. Heather mama of 5 June 2, 2007 Fantastic Reference Book! This book covers just about everything from "cavemen" to the Iraqi War (updated 2004 edition). The easy to read/understand narratives and the large, colorful illustrations make this book a great reference book for school reports/homeschool. Although we usually read it together, my 8 & 10 year old kids can both read & understand this book. A great resource for any family library. November 3, 2006 Great reference book I really enjoy this book. It is in chronological order. It has great pictures and is an easy read. We use it almost every week as we are studying ancient civilizations. It is well worth the money! November 2, 2006 Some obvious mistakes Book contains some obvious mistakes. On page 113 it is stated that Rurik was the founder of Kiev, what is not true, because Kiev had been known since V century. October 30, 2006 Disappointing Revision While this version is intially attractive, I found it a disappointing replacement of the original. In addition to the already stated objections, it has a stronger anti-Christian or politically correct viewpoint than the original. In fact, certain opposing theologies were stated to the point of factuality that my friend insisted on the book being removed from her home without wishing to resell it for fear of harmful influence. July 5, 2006 Wonderful Encyclopedia I bought this to homeschool my 5 year old daughter. We have found it to be a great presentation of history, well illustrated and organized.
