The Darkest Kiss (Riley Jensen, Guardian, Book 6) Review
Desire turns her dangerous... Riley Jenson hunts evildoers—and does it with a style all her own. With vamp blood coursing her through her veins, and a werewolf’s uncanny instinct for danger, Riley wears snakeskin stilettos and pure, in-your-face attitude when she plunges into her latest case: hunting down a killer whose victims are high-society strumpets—and the rich and powerful men they’ve dated. But for Riley, the case takes a chilling turn when a second killer starts trailing mutilated bodies of his own: a crazed young vamp choosing victims from a past marked by tragedy. Riley knows she’s got the skill and cunning to catch two serial killers at once…until one of them strikes inside her own tight-knit clan—and a sexy beast of a vampire reenters her life to aid in the hunt. His name is Quinn. He’s lived forever, shed blood, and shared pleasure…and he’s the only man over whom Riley has absolutely no control…. User Submitted The Darkest Kiss (Riley Jensen, Guardian, Book 6) ReviewsOctober 24, 2008 I loved it! I picked up the first Keri Arthur book a few weeks ago and couldn't put it down. I love her use of fantasy, paranormal, romance, and mystery/detective. Plus unlike many authors I think she does a great job keeping the plot line going. I love how with every book there's some new and different paranormal creature coming into the mix. Her main character Riley Jenson is captivating and strong. She's a no-nonsense kind of gal. I love the relationships she's built not only between Riley and her twin brother (makes me want a brother to lean on!) but also between Riley and her various BF's. She's also not afraid of venturing into the details of the crimes Riley investigates. She reminds me of Laurel K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series in that way (before LK kind of lost the plot lines). Sure there's blood and gore but it's done in a way that goes with the job Riley has. I enjoyed this book in particular. It broke my heart in book 5 when Kellen left Riley. I was worried her charcter would go off the deep end. I was so happy to find that Quinn came back into the plot. And you find out so much more about Quinn in this novel (as well as in book number 5). It really helps to make sense of his character. I wish some more time would be spent on their relationship.... as Riley keeps pointing out in the book they barely know each other. I'm confident that will happen in book 7 however. I highly recomend this series. Especially if you enjoy books like LK Hamilton's but want a little more plot with alittle less hard-core eroticsm. I would say that in contrast- Keri Arthur focuses more on the romantic part of sex (you can really feel the love between her characters). I'm so excited for book 7!! August 28, 2008 One of my favorite authors I really liked this book. Really, I think Keri Arthur is very talented. It has romance, suspense, and murders in it. All those qualitities make a book very interesting and suspenseful. June 24, 2008 Sixth in Riley Jenson, Guardian, series Riley Jenson is an unusual character. She's part-wolf, part-vampire, working (initially against her will but perhaps not so now) as a Guardian, an enforcer for law in the supernatural world. She lives with her twin brother Rhoan and is still trying to come to terms with the fact her lover Kellen walked away from her some months before. It probably helps to have read the previous books in this series, "Full Moon Rising", "Kissing Sin", "Tempting Evil", "Dangerous Games" and "Embraced by Darkness" as the backstory isn't always completely explained. This story sees the welcome return of Quinn, the Old Vampire who couldn't cope with Riley sharing her attentions with other men (and I don't blame him). Riley seems to be settling down, however, so that when Quinn walks back into her life there's possible some kind of a future for them. The romance part of this book, however, is downplayed compared to the plot as Riley tries to uncover a serial killer with some strange powers. When various women get shredded by a strange animal claw, high-society men are left dead in public places and then more people start to die with a rather different footprint, it seems that Riley has her work cut out for her. Might the killer or killers strike closer to home? Are they in fact some monsters she's never previously heard of? Riley's a great character with her forthright but loyal nature. The interactions with her boss's PA, Salliane, are fun as usual although with a rather different tone than the previous books. Her relationship with Quinn was nicely written and not overdone. This was an enjoyable episode in this series although the world of things-that-go-bump-in-the-night seems to be increasing rather rapidly and that sometimes feels, to this reader at least, rather lazy plotting. This book will appeal to those who have read the previous books and I did enjoy it, particularly the Australian rather than American/British/Irish setting. Originally published for Curled Up With A Good Book © Helen Hancox 2008 June 17, 2008 Another Excellent Riley Story! Riley's focused on two cases this time around, and I loved the action scenes while the hunts grew. Riley's smarts and instincts get the job done. Excellent action scenes, lots of suspense, and more about her inner struggle with her feelings. She and Quinn have lots to work out. Kellen had left her feeling alone, and she struggles quite a bit with that. She truly did love him, but I believe that, if a man truly loves you, he won't ask you to change. While it hurt that he left, I believe that she's better off. Quinn comes back, and while he may have learned the error of his ways, he still has a lot to learn about Riley. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks - I think that while Quinn may be stubborn, it may work out just between them. Like any woman, Riley is being cautious; she doesn't want to get hurt again, and I can understand that. We get even more between Rhoan and Liander, and Rhoan's inner struggle where Liander's concerned. I really like the banter between Kade and Riley, even though she refuses to let it go anywhere. In true Riley form, she gives the excuse that Jack would get mad about it. We know better. She's not ready for it, but she won't admit it to anyone but herself. And I wonder if anything will come of the banter between Cole and Riley. I think he's very attacted to her and fighting it tooth and nail. It will be interesting to see if anything happens between them. Another excellent novel and I can't wait for the next. June 15, 2008 We love Riley Jensen My daughter and I are big fans of Riley Jensen. Keri Arthur creates characters that you can care about and look forward to encountering again in her next installment. Really fun paranormal romance reading. June 5, 2008 Great read This series is great and this book just adds to it. i love how Quinn is back in the picture, I think he and her will make a great couple if they ever fully get serious. And finally upping Lianders and Rhoans relationship has finally come!!! Its not alot but hey its something. This was a great add on to the series, i couldn't put it down. So many things going on there was never a dull moment. June 1, 2008 The Darkest Kiss It was okay, a little different from the other books, but i still enjoyed it. May 31, 2008 Loved It!! ok, ok, yes the first books had more sex scenes, but I really understood that Riley was getting over Kellen and had that feel that she was giving herself some time to heal...and I loved how it ended...I love Quinn and am a sucker for a hot vampire... :) I love this series..it makes me smile and cry and laugh ... May 31, 2008 The Darkest Kiss This was a great story, I hope it does not end here. Riley deserves the love her vampire can give her. May 30, 2008 Been Waiting I started out this series with Tempting Evil which I must say was a heck of a way to start out. Darkest Kiss was a very good read and I look forward to More of Riley's books in the future. For more The Darkest Kiss (Riley Jensen, Guardian, Book 6) reviews click here.
