Will anyone take on Jake Semple?

Jake Semple is notorious. Rumor has it he burned down his old school and got kicked out of every school in his home state.

Only one place will take him now, and that's a home school run by the Applewhites, a chaotic and hilarious family of artists. The only one who doesn't fit the Applewhite mold is E.D. -- a smart, sensible girl who immediately clashes with the unruly Jake.

Jake thinks surviving this one will be a breeze . . . but is he really as tough or as bad as he seems?

A PUNK
Surviving The Applewhites is a fantastic book. But there are parts I don't like about the Applewhites. I don't like the how much of a punk they are. But as I was reading I found out that the parents are in jail so that explains alot. When you see the cover you are going to see a kid that wears alot of black. You are also going to see the kid with alot of piercings. i thought he was a punk because of all the smoking he does. Really he is a good kid when You read the book you will find out stuff about him that will make you change your mind. I thought this book was great and you should read the book so you can comment on the book too. SO READ THE BOOK!!!

Jesse's review
Surviving the Applewhites is a pretty cool book.

Jake is my favorite character. I like his hair and his necklace and his eyebrow ring.

When Jake went to get the butterfly for E.D that is like me because I would do that for a nice person too.

It makes me sad for Jake because he isn't with his parents. It makes me think about when I am bad in school.

Teenage boys would like this book better than girls.

I like the beginning when he first got to the farm and starts to know people.

When it's E.D's turn it gets boring.

I would read this book again but I want to read another very good book like the first one.

My Review
Surviving The Applewhites is a awesome book and I think a lot of people would like it. Jake is my favorite character in the book because he dresses wierd. I think I'm like Jake because we both dress cool to get attention. This book makes me feel happy for Winston the dog because since Jake came the dog started being take care of and being loved. I think the kind of people hat the book would be good for is ages 6-12. I would like to read another like this book but not read it again.
My favorite part was when Destiny starts cussing. My least favorite part was the beginning of the story.

This Year's Delinquent is...
Surviving the Applewhites is an awesome book! It's about a delinquent kid named Jake. Who goes through a lot of hard stuff in his life. His parents went to jail for selling wine. Jake smokes, cusses and has bright red hair in spikes. Also there is a rumor that Jake burned down his last school. So he now goes to a school named Creative Academy held by a crazy family called the Applewhites. They are the only people who believe there is any good in Jake. The book is about Jake going through changes. Jake has a little admirer named Destiny Applewhite! Destiny is trying everyway possible to be just like Jake. Jake also has a little admirer the Applewhites' dog named Winston. He looooooooooves Jake!!! He always barks when Jake leaves the house. E.D. one of the Applewhite girls doesn't care for Jake at all. She thinks he is absolutely disgusting in everyway. Read the Book to find out what changes Jake makes and what choices he decides to make. And to find out what weird things Destiny does to try to be like Jake.

For my son
My son was required to read this book for class. Instead of going to the library and checking it out I figured I would buy it here and donate it to the class when he was done. He read it and said it was a really good book.

I want to be an Applewhite!
I bought this book for my children, but I have to admit that I have read it several times over myself! Stephanie Tolan captures the essence of a whacky homeschooling family just perfectly. I love the way the parents encourage the children to follow their own dreams. I'd absolutely love to see a sequel, as the Applewhite family is too amazing to limit to just one book! I recommend this for kids at a grade 5 or higher reading level. There is reference to smoking, arson, and bad language, but in the end, even the "bad" kid turns out to be a winner. This might be just the thing to help a smart kid in poor circumstances to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The novel you wished you read!!
Jake Semple, a boy of destruction, started living with the Applewhite family about a year ago. His adjusment to his new home was awkward. The Applewhites were an artistic family. E.D., a nonartistic Applewhite, was the only one who actually helped Jake get settled in. Although they didn't get along very well, it was her duty to welcome him with open arms. With Randolph, the Applewhite father, constructing his play and Sybil, the Applewhite mother, building her novel, the Applewhite clan was very busy all the time. When things start to go wrong with Randolph's play, everyone's life is turned upside down! There whole life starts to revovle around the play. With teamwork and responsibility, the family manages to pull it together. I definitely feel like this book was absolutely amazing! You kids should definitely read this book.

Can you survied the Applewhites!?!?
The Applewhite's took Jake in from his uncle(who didn't want to keep him). After Jake burned down one of his old school in Rhode Island and got kicked out of all of the others. Jake is a punk kid that smokes and does alot of other bad thing that he should not do. E.D. doesnt like Jake when he come at first because she think he is a bad kid that cant be trusted. But the dad gets to do the"The Sound of Music" in a play. The woman that was the women that gave him the part to do the play cancel it cause her daughter was not in it and one girl broke her arm in a practice. The show was canceled but did that stop the Applewhites? Read this book and found out!!!

What I thought of Surviving the Applewhites
This story is about a boy named Jake who has been kicked out of every school and sent to live with the Applewhite family, a family of artists who have their own homeschool. I really liked this book. It had a lot of fun twists, mixed into the plot. I thought it was a fun book. I also learned things while I was reading this book. It made me want to watch the Sound of Music. I really enjoyed reading this book, and will probably read it again.

Surviving the Applewhites
Surviving the Applewhites is a book about a foster kid named Jake. His parents were sent to jail for growing mariguana leaves in their backyard. He was sent to live with his grandparents but before that he was expelled from all the public schools in Rhode Island. He even burned up one of his old schools. He was a 13 year old punk boy who liked to smoke. Jake had a social worker who helped him find people who would take care of him until his parents got out of jail. The book is about him surviving the Applewhites family which are his grandparent's neighbors. While he's with his grandparents he goes to the Applewhites home school. Surviving the Applewhites is a very childish and foolish book. Surviving the Applewhites is too childish of a book for someone in middle school. It's a very contradictory book and gives bad examples to little children. You should never read this book because it's boring. Surviving the Applewhites is a book I would never read again. I would never encourage someone to read this book. By: Rudy Richter
