Read-Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young Review
User Submitted Read-Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young ReviewsJuly 5, 2008 One of My Favorites Reading to your children at a young age teaches children valuable reading skills (especially if you ask the right questions to make them think) and to love reading. This is a great book. Buy this along with my other two favorites:Life's Little Lessons: An Inch-By-Inch Tale of Success andThe Big Squeal: A Wild, True, and Twisted Tail. Young children will love the stories and the invaluable teaching guides make them must-have books for every parent and teacher bookshelf. December 31, 2007 A poetry lover is born! I gave this book and 2 others to my 6 1/2 year old niece for Christmas. She started reading the book Christmas day and asked for book marks to mark her favorite poems so she can take the book to school and share them with her classmates! The pictures and the poems drew her in and engaged her immediately. You cannot ask more from a children's book. September 9, 2007 really cute All sorts of rhymes by different authors, about all sorts of topics. Great for the earliest years. February 19, 2007 Some really good and very original rhymes These are not classic, everyday rhymes. Many of my books have the same old stuff over and over again e.g. Jack and Jill. This book has stuff like "The Dreadful Doings of Jelly Belly" and all sorts of amazing stuff. I read this one on my own, and if dad has time he reads me some of the more complicated ones. I like it. Valerie. February 13, 2007 Fun to Read Although my almost three year old daughter doesn't request this book, when I bring it out she invariably ends up sitting in my lap, pointing at the illustrations, telling me which poem to read next and has begun to finish the rhymes for me as I read . For me, it has been an enjoyable book to read aloud and it is nice to see her so involved in poetry. January 16, 2007 Not for the Very Young While this is a wonderful book, well written and well illustrated, it is a paper book and is not conducive to the very young (as it states) because of their desire to turn pages (and the resulting tears in the paper). My daughter is 13 months old and prefers her board book of nursery rhymes. I hope she will grow into this book as she learns to turn and not tear. January 6, 2007 Such a Great Poem Book - Even for Adults These poems are so witty and fun to read. The amazing aspect of many of the poems is how the child's senses are stimulated by the words. This is a keeper! I read it to my children in the car for a long ride and my husband said, "This poetry is a lot better than adult poetry". December 17, 2006 Relates to real life I used to quote some of these poems while I was outside with my children enjoying the activities in the poems. These poems helped them transform everyday experiences into exciting exercises for language skills and imagination. My children are grown now. I'm glad to see these poems in such a lovely book for another generation! October 29, 2006 Read Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young This is a delightful and fun book for young children. A really good lap book. My 2 year old loves it and chooses it often when we read together. An enjoyable read for both the reader and the listener. September 27, 2006 My son's FAVORITE book! My 2yr old son and I absolutely LOVE this book! Started reading it to him as an infant and still top choice! The copy I own must be a newer edition as my cover has apple tree and children on it but it's a MUST HAVE! As a parent, I love that it's a fun vivid book with "newer" poetry. I tend to shy away from some "classics" as they really are hard for small children to get into, not too mention have a tendency to be not so... nice. Example: old lady who lived in a shoe with all the children. That doesn't have such a nice ending if you recall. Prelutsky's book has taken over Mother Goose's spot in our library! Hard to get bored reading this to your little ones! For more Read-Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young reviews click here.
