User Submitted Once Upon a Potty -- Boy ReviewsMay 9, 2008 A Must-have before attempting toilet training! I have used this book prior to potty training 3 generations of boys in our family. I introduce it about 6 months before I think each child will be ready for training. The kids love the story and the fact that the pictures are anatomically correct! They carry the book with them wherever they go and eventually "read" it to themselves. This book is not a toilet training method or an end unto itself. I think it is best used to prepare children for the idea of using the potty. As a parent educator, mom and grandma I recommend it to all parents to use along with Toilet Training in Less Than A Day.I've never known these to fail if followed accurately! May 4, 2008 Once upon a potty This book is fabulous. Beautiful illustrations and very funny! My little boy adores it and it's helping with his potty training. April 19, 2008 very similar to a book i own Bought this book while trying to train my son Joshua. The character in the book is Joshua, too, so I thought my son would like it... After reading several times, I couldn't help by notice it is very much like "the potty book" that I bought a year ago! Although this book is much older, it seems someone else thought it was good enough to copy! My son does like it, but not enough to go potty on the toilet full time!!! April 6, 2008 Would Not Recommend I, the reader, find this to be a terribly written book. (If you read it, you'll see what I mean by that!) I also don't like the use of made-up names for anatomical parts. I think she calls it a "Pee Pee". Call it what it is. Agree with other reviewers about the so-called "potty" in the illustrations is very confusing. It looks nothing like a toilet. This was a complete waste of my money. March 6, 2008 Very Cute My 22 month old son love's reading about Joshua, The little boy in this book. It has quickly become one of his favorite's and I would reccomend it to anyone with a little potty training boy. March 3, 2008 Fun Illustration The book does what is intended for our child by illustrating the concept in a fun and entertaining way. We like the book and are sure others will as well! February 27, 2008 great a book that any house can use with toddlers to be potty trained. January 12, 2008 A Frustrated Mom's Greatest Helper! My daughter was nearly three and still not completely potty trained when my grandmother gave her the girl's version of this book. She was so captivated by the rhymes and illustrations that two days later our little girl was officially out of diapers. I was beyond delighted, as she was a tall child and too big for the largest diapers available at the time. We securing them with duct tape sos they wouldn't pop off! The book is tasteful, written in a way that children can understand, illustrated with primary colors that capture their attention. My niece is trying to potty train her little boy now...so naturally the boy's version of "Once Upon A Potty" came to mind to help them along their journey. I've read alot of pros and cons from parents about this book...everything from criticizing illustrations to complaining about the text. People we need to remember that we are not the audience that the book was intended to reach. The little people are. I can speak from experience that the book certainly helped us! January 11, 2008 A must have for parents I read some of the other review's let me clear a few things up. This book was first published about 30 years ago and has been so well loved there is no need to update really. The book has worked for 30 years so why mess with success. The term's used a toddler friendly using the technical terms may not be comfortable for some people but pee pee is a very simple word and the child will get the concept the pee pee is for maiking pee. My son was very hard to potty train. He was two and a half and we were having little success. I found this book at my local book store after remebering my mother used this book when my little sister was having a hard time potty training. The book helped him understand why he needed to use the potty in a way a 2 year old could understand.My son just loved the book he found it to informative and a little silly. This book changed his attitude and made potty training exciting. Give this book a try, it's fantastic.
