Mama's Milk Review
User Submitted Mama's Milk ReviewsJuly 1, 2008 great, non-nipply nursing book I love finding books that normalize breastfeeding to children, but a lot of them are too "nipply" to me -- as natural as it is, and as much as I might nurse a baby or toddler in public without a care, I don't like the books with nipples all over the pages. Maybe I just feel self-conscious if someone else should see the books, or maybe it's just me being prudishly American. Regardless, this book is quite tastefully done. Even those who think babies should be nursed under a hooter-hider and only until they are 6mo old, etc, couldn't object to it. Wish it was a boardbook, as most kids who are nursing are still ripping up paper pages, but it's a high quality printing on thicker than average paper. May 27, 2008 Love this book! I really really like this book, and my daughter loves seeing all the animals drinking their mommy's milk. I like that it has all the animals on the two pages in back too, so we can go over all the animals again together. April 26, 2008 Heartwarming! This is an especially beautiful book to share with a child you are nursing or the sibling of one. The pictures and words are precious and the message is so sweet - mothere and their children have a special bond! February 18, 2008 Beautiful book! My nursing toddler son and I LOVE this book! The drawings are beautiful, the story is sweet, and we learned a lot about other nursing mammals! Brian's favorites-- the nursing puggles (platypus babies) and the fact that kangaroos make pink milk. This book gets a lot of cuddles, sweet milky smiles, and of course ends in a good night nurse. January 25, 2008 Gorgeous Book, Must-Have for AP Parents! This book celebrates how beautiful and natural breastfeeding is...even for humans! My children were delighted to see beautiful pictures of a mom cuddling and nursing a baby in bed, nursing on a park bench, and wearing baby in a sling. They exclaimed, "It's like us!" And the way the book connects nursing with snuggling and cuddling in all creatures is gorgeous. As an added bonus, there are little nursing facts about different animals at the book (like a father coyote takes care of feeding a nursing mother coyote and how elephants nurse up to five years!) It gives you the names of animals and their babies, the names of their homes, etc. too, so very educational to boot! Gorgeous, beautiful book full of love and natural beauty! June 14, 2007 Perfect Book for the Sibling of a Newborn As the mother of three and grandmother of nine, I have seen many young children curious about and struggling with a newborn sibling nursing. I think every hospital prenatal sibling program should give this book to the older sisters and brothers to be. Beautiful drawings and lots of great information for children. April 18, 2007 Great teaching opportunity Michael Elsohn Ross' book, Mama's Milk, provides parents and caretakers a wonderful opportunity to discuss how and why mothers nurse their babies. The stories are told in a comforting rhyme and celebrate breastfeeding and the bonding that results. The author begins with a human mother cuddling her child and nursing and continues with pigs, horses, monkeys, elephants, bats, otters and on and on. At the back of the book there are individual pictures of the different animals and facts about them in conjunction with nursing. I learned a lot. The illustrations are lovely and contribute greatly to the message. Not only will your child learn about mothers feeding their offspring, but the animal illustrations provide a great opportunity to learn to identify animals. Armchair Interviews says: If you have a new baby and have older siblings, Mama's Milk is a great tool for learning, understanding and embracing the importance of mother's milk.
