Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology (9th Edition) (Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology (Marieb)) Review
User Submitted Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology (9th Edition) (Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology (Marieb)) ReviewsMarch 17, 2008 Lacking enough detail in spots I feel like this was a much bigger A&P textbook that was cut down into an "Essentials" version. Every now and then you'll be faced with a term in passing as if you already understand it, when it hasn't been presented at all. It's almost like a paragraph is missing every few pages. This feeling gets worse when you try to use the online or CD quizzes which will ask questions you can not possibly answer with this text book. If you're taking a very generic class where the teach doesn't expect you to know more than the bare basics (and is willing to let you skip the parts not adequately explained in this book!) then it's passable. Otherwise, you might need an additional text to muddle through. February 15, 2008 Good shopping experience Item was in exact condition as quoted and received in a pretty reasonable time frame. Would buy from this seller again. August 13, 2007 Made an A in A&P I think my instructor had a lot to do with it, as well as some changes in study habits since I went to college the first time (2.68). But this book definitely helped. I had a 96 average in class. It's not an easy read, nor is something to try to do without some class notes, but I thought it was clear and informative. July 25, 2007 Human Anatomy This book was purchased for a high-school course. Class hasn't started yet so can't rate the book properly. I presume that it is good because the school chose it. January 21, 2007 Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology 8th edition This book was necessary for my class. Its good, except I can't get the disk to work. November 4, 2006 good condition-- a bit long for delivery the delivery was a bit slow but the book was in perfect condition. August 10, 2005 Nice and Well Organized Book. I had this book for about two semesters, in college by the way. The first semester I dropped it and finally the second semester I got a B. Interesting hm? Anyhow, the book contains a large amount of information including very nice diagrams and photographs and has vastly improved in my opinion from the early first few editions. What makes this book extremely informative is the fact that it is pretty well organized and set up including indexing and clear contents listing. 16 chapters starting slowly from the basics of the human body, its relations to chemistry, cells and tissues, and finally going more in depth by digging deep into the organ systems and the human anatomy. The diagrams are clearly listed, but of course I've seen a few errors. The information is just so much. Unless you are crazy about this, I doubt you'll remember much without reviewing it over and over continuously on a weekly if not daily bases. Almost each part in the diagram is listed out on the same page or a few pages back and forth to give the reader a more precise knowledge if the reader intends to know more of what the diagram/photo represents part for part. The information is simply mind blowing and pretty exhausting to remember. Most readers of this and other anatomy/medical/etc related books would sooner or later ask themselves "who the heck would make up all these silly names and expect us to memorize it?!" The information is a little too compact for me and this is the only problem I have with this book, the simple fact that its a lot to comprehend and doesn't seem very intended in my Physiology and Anatomy basics class. Like always, mix other text books with this one if you intend to get everything out of this subject. No one book is perfect. Otherwise, its a decent book overall. August 5, 2003 Tolerable This book has some useful diagrams and illustrations. It's easy to read, but seems a bit too simplified at times. Also, I think the editors were a bit lax on the writing, personally. The CD quizes are helpful for review. May 27, 2003 Informative and highly understandable textbook This book filled with great informative pictures and information that makes any college A and P student's life a lot easier. I used this book for anatomy and physiology class I and II. The book is easy to read and it is a powersource of knowledge. The book is not tedious nor boring to read. In fact, it is quite interesting and was a pleasure studying from. If you want to know the type of questions asked on college anatomy and physiology exams, get the following which is also on amazon: Anatomy and Physiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations It was certainly my perception -- and seemed to be consensus among many of the students -- that this textbook is mediocre. Several of us in the class were also taking medical terminology in another class; about midway through the class we discovered that each of us had separately taken to using our medical terminology text ("Language of Medicine," Chabner) as our primary text for the A&P class also, because we all found it much more user-friendly and felt we were absorbing a lot more information than we were with this book. (And this subset of the class appeared to be doing considerably better on exams than the rest of the class as a whole.) If this is the designated text for a class you're taking, you don't have a whole lot of choice (but you might consider buying the Chabner book too, to lower your stress level!); but if you DO have a choice, I wouldn't recommend this book.
