Angela and the Baby Jesus: (Children's Edition) Review
User Submitted Angela and the Baby Jesus: (Children's Edition) ReviewsJuly 29, 2008 Poor ending to this to this otherwise interesting book. I LOVE Frank McCourt's books. There is no story more emotionally riveting and profound than "Angela's Ashes". I just wish his newer books had better endings. This most recent book just dwindles away at the end. I was waiting for something more, and it merely dropped off. Frank is truly the best story teller of our lifetime. I hope he writes many more books about Ireland. June 24, 2008 angela and the baby Jesus This book is short and very appealing to young readers. The message is universal. It's about love. January 14, 2008 Nice to see a new Christmas story We loved this story for its message about the real reason for the Christmas season. In today's culture of "political correctness" and not wanting to offend anyone that often is missing. The artwork is soft and beautiful. It will be a book that is set out for Christmas reading for many years to come. January 12, 2008 For the whole family! my entire family loved this book! My son's received it first & thought it would be a great gift for our uncle who is a priest! The only difference between the children's version & the adult is the art work. It's a lovely story! January 10, 2008 Love this story Enjoyed reading it to the grandchildren but pictures were a little dark for the younger ones. January 7, 2008 Angela and the Baby Jesus This is a very precious and special book for everyone. It tells the beautiful story of how far a little girl and her brother were willing to go to protect Baby Jesus. It signifies the innocence that so many children lose so earlier in life, and exemplifies the spirit of why we celebrate Jesus's birth. Please give this book to all of the little girls and boys (big girls and boys too) you know to help instill in them the beautiful message that Angela and the Baby Jesus bring. December 22, 2007 New Favorite Christmas Book This is one of those books which we will look forward to reading with our children every year. It is full of tradition, humor, and tenderness and is one both children and adults will very much enjoy. The illustrations are beautifully done, and the story is a touching, gentle reminder of the baby whose birthday we celebrate at Christmas. This is one of those rare books which can take a busy day of shopping and errands, and put it in perspective. I too will never again look at a Nativity scene without thinking of the real baby it portrays, and how a little girl long ago wanted to take care of the baby Jesus she so loved. Mr. McCourt allows us to be inspired by the genuine love and compassion of the children who became his mother and uncle, and I hope their story will carry the same message into the hearts of my own children. December 17, 2007 A Tale From Angela Written by Frank McCourt, ANGELA AND THE BABY JESUS is a retelling of a true story that McCourt's mother relayed to him about an event she was involved in as a child. There are two editions of the story, a children's version and an adult version. The children's version is filled with more illustrations. This review is focused on the adult version of the book that has illustrations by Loren Long. Little seven-year-old Angela sees the baby Jesus alone in the manger at church and decides that he must get cold laying where he is and decides to take him home and warm him up. However, it's not an easy task as one might think. I love McCourt's writing and I am thankful to him for sharing about his life and now an episode from the life of his mother. McCourt's books are very sad and full of dark humor. However, ANGELA AND THE BABY JESUS isn't quite like that. There is some humor involved, but overall it's a heartwarming story full of the love, joy, and peace that surround the Christmas season. December 8, 2007 Wonderful for children I purchsed this book for three of my great grandchildren. Their mother says they read it over and over again. The two older children read it to the youngest who is too young to read yet. But he claps his little hands in enjoyment. The life story of Frank McCourt is one of rags to riches. I have several of his books and find inspiration in each of them. Parke C. Bogle November 29, 2007 Almost a 5Star This would have been a good children's book except, when Angel's mother told her to tell the truth, because if you tell a lie in the presence of the Baby Jesus "it's worse than any sin in the World." For this reason this book will not be put in our church Library. There is no place in the Bible that says a lie is the worst sin and we shouldn't mislead our children.
