Great introduction to word play!
Amelia Bedelia and the Surprise Shower is a wonderful opportunity for readers to enjoy just how funny it is to interpret words literally. Poor Amelia Bedelia is always intending to do her very best, and follows her employers instructions to the last detail! A surprise shower involves, of course, a garden hose! Pruning a garden requires prunes! And running an iron involves -- well, you can figure it out, yourself!

It's no wonder Peggy Parish's writing is so popular with her young fans -- and their parents. This one is sure to be a favorite!

Amelia Bedelia and the Surprise Shower
Wonderful. This book is as amusing to adults as it is to children. My daughter enjoyed the book so much, she added it to her summer reading. Since it is an 'I can Read' my daughter read the story aloud to me and just started laughing as she was reading it - which is proof to me of a good book. Reading should be fun, not a chore. She has been talking about the book with friends and making everyone laugh. I recommend this book to anyone who has a child who is ready to start reading on their own and wants to add laughter to their child's reading experience.

This Party is Not All Wet...Despite the Hose!
Amelia Bedelia is always a simple, fun and entertaining read! In this volume, we find Amelia and her cousin in charge of setting up a surprise wedding shower for a friend of her employer Mrs. Rogers. In typical Amelia Bedelia fashion, the literal meaning of the requests and orders given and the intended meaning are two different things entirely...it's always fun to watch kids register that the words in the story really do mean two different things (like filling a bowl with cut flowers...simple, yet taken literally, you get something entirely different from it...this is the joy of Parish's writing). Parish always does it with just the right amount of frivolity and light-hearted humor that it's impossible not to love Amelia Bedelia despite all the trouble she causes! I love the Amelia Bedelia series as a read aloud because it's so much fun, but the Amelia Bedelia series is also ideal for young readers, especially those just starting to read on their own! There are not a lot of words on each page, but what is there is easy to understand and conveyed succinctly and with humor and the illustrations are perfectly matched to the text (with a slightly old fashioned feel to them). You just can't go wrong with these books!

Rain on the Parade
Wedding Shower! As soon as the word shower is mentioned, trust Amelia Bedelia, the world's most foolish maid to get out the hose and drench everybody. It's a wonder she was allowed anywhere near the party.

Sweet Amelia Bedelia
I am not a huge fan of the books, but I do like to read about the things she does. It is quite humerous to read she does things literally. Quite genius of the writer to come up with such a wonderful and well-meaning character. I love the fact that Amelia Bedelia takes every situation in stride and does exactly as she is told.

Amelia Bedelia (I write her name fully because Peggy Parish uses her full name throughout the book) in this read becomes the life of the party. Of course, she doesn't mean to, but she and Alcolu makes the surprise shower exactly into that. A big surprise!!

It is not one of my favorite Amelia Bedelia books, but it does not fall short of who this lovely character is: sweet Amelia Bedelia. Enjoy.

Amelia Bedelia and the Surprise Sower
Amelia Bedelia and the Surprise Shower, is a wonderful child's book, mainly read for and to 6-8 year olds.
When Amelia and her cousin Alcolu is told about the "surprise shower" Mrs.Rogers is having for Ms.Alma they were confused, and then they realized, that a surprise shower is where friends "shower the special someone with gifts for the occasion.
So of course Amelia and Alcolu had a gift too.
The motto of this story is "its ok to be yourself, even if being yourself means strange and comfusing".
I recommend this book to any child, its fun and easy to read.

Amelia Bedelia
The Amelia Bedelia series book Amelia Bedelia and The Suprise Shower from a 4 year olds perspective was a funny and entertaining book. She is told to do something and she literally does it. To quote from the book "Amelia Bedelia do run over this with an iron." Amelia Bedelia got the iron and literally ran over the table cloth with her feet and the iron in her hand. Amelia Bedelia is a great series for younger kids and a good way to teach them to read. It also helps them to understand two ways of looking at things.

4 1/2* Chocolate Fish and Planted Prunes: Amelia is Back!
Amelia Bedelia, a young housekeeper, encounters the ambiguities of the spoken word, with hilarious results. Her problem? She takes words too literally: When asked to "prune the hedge," she and her cousin stick prunes on all the branches. A request to "scale and ice" some freshly caught fish results in her weighing them, and then frosting the fish with chocolate icing! And when she's asked to help give Miss Alma surprise shower. . .well, you can probably imagine her interpretation.

Despite Amelia's well-intentioned miscues, everything ends happily, maybe even better than if she had understood everything as intended. This is one of the best in the Amelia Bedelia series, with lots of fun wordplay and an interesting story.

Amelia Bedelia's Best Book!
This book will have parents and children laughing out loud, until the last page. In this story, Miss Alma is going to have a shower at the Rogers-Bedelia House. So Amelia Bedelia almost crashes the party with her cousin. She puts prunes all over the hedges, ices raw fish with chocolate frosting, stomps on Mrs Rogers's favorite tablecloth, and sprays all the party guests with the hose. But she knows how to do one thing the right way, and that is to make chocolate cupcakes.
