This photography board book introduces young children to the alphabet through a humorous concept of making soup with almost any food found in the kitchen. Can you imagine making soup from ketchup, hot dogs, and ice cream? Barney can and does just that. Full color.

Great for your Barney lovers out there
this is a cute book. My two year old got more than half of the "ingredients" right. She loves this book.

Great Way to Learn ABC's
This very simple book is a great way for young children to learn their ABC's. An actual photo of Barney, not an illustration, appears on every page facing the alphabet letters. My 2-year old loves it.

Could have been better
Since my child loves Barney I bought several of these board books and although most of them are pretty good this one misses the boat a bit on the choices it makes in teaching children. Like the one other reviewer stated, they do use X-tra Sharp Cheese as the example for the letter X. And then there is the letter U, usually you find an umbrella or some other appropriate word, but here you'll find U stands for Unsweetened Chocolate! In a book where A is for Apple, B is for banana, etc.. it's perplexing why the author made those choices in teaching young kids the alphabet.

My [...]'s favorite book
Right now this is my [...]'s favorite book. He loves to name and look at the different foods (some of which he knows, some of which he's just learning). Every night he wants to read the "Barney book" before going to bed.

A Sweet Alphabet book
This book really helped my daughter recognize and learn not only her alphabet, but new foods! It helped make food shopping fun! She loves looking for squash, radishes and zucchini... now if I can only get her to eat them :-)

Anyway, so what if they used Extra sharp cheddar as the X food - it's still a sweet, endearing book with delicious pictures!

Don't bother
My 20 month old LOVES Barney and most of his book and DVD's are great. This book however is not a good choice. They could have thought of a better premise of learning the alphabet and food items. I would not purchase this book again and would not recommend it.

Kids love this book
I am a day care provider and mom and all the kids love to read this book. Some of the foods used in the book are new to the children. We have gone shopping for zucchini and cooked with unsweetened chocolate and made quiche. this book is a great alphabet book showing the upper and lowercase letters and introducing some new foods.

My son learned his ABCs
This book is writen to entertain and help teach kids thier ABCs. Thats is exactly (X is for exactly) did for my son. I am sorry that some people are offended that x is used improperly. Just the same, not all the foods used in the book should be going into the soup pot. My son & daughter loved it so much, that I am getting it for my new nephew.

"X is for Extra-Sharp Cheddar"...Please!!!
This book has a really cute concept, and is of course appealing because of the ever-friendly Barney. However, "X is for Extra-Sharp cheddar"? I realize that X is a difficult letter, but if the author was going to do an alphabet book, one would think that it would be incumbent upon said author to create an appropriate food for each letter...or else don't use food as your concept!!! If not creative, at least the book should be correct...it is supposed to be an alphabet learning tool!!!
