A Pocket Full of Kisses Review
User Submitted A Pocket Full of Kisses ReviewsNovember 22, 2007 What a hit! I bought this along with the author's previous book, The Kissing Hand for my grandsons in Seattle. The little brother(age 2 and 1/2)was beginning day care and having separation problems. His aunt, my other daughter-in-law who has older children, suggested both books. The sleeper book, A Pocket Full of Kisses turned out to be the favorite of the big brother (age 5)and was selected for show and tell at kindergarten. May 16, 2007 New sibling book The book I purchased was in brand new condition and shipped quickly. Thank you. The book itself is an adorable follow up to The Kissing Hand and perfect for a young child becoming a big brother/sister. My son loves it! March 10, 2007 Beautiful Book This book was first introduced to me by my daughters preschool teacher. This book not only has a nice story for young children, but has beautiful illustrations. My children enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoy reading it to them. March 8, 2007 Excellent sequel to "The Kissing Hand" I am very impressed and pleased with "A Pocketful of Kisses". It is an excellent sequel to "The Kissing Hand" whether or not there is another baby expected into the family. The book is well written; the illustrations amazing!! I recommend this book to anyone with a special "little one" in their lives! January 7, 2007 Great book This book is great especially if you have siblings in the household. Very touching story. May 20, 2006 The expanse of Love shared with children When I first picked up this book, I was skeptical. Like most parents, I figured my 2 1/2 year old would tire of this book easily. But as I read it, the feelings of love that I have for my own two sons came to mind. I use it to teach a lesson about Love. As a mother, I never run out of kisses, hugs, affection--Love--for my two sons (or anyone else in our lives), but rather there is enough for all. I think that's a great lesson for kids to learn: that sharing is not competitive and there is room for all. I adore this book and my littlest one insists that I kiss his hand every night before he cuddles up with his bear. It's a very beautiful lesson very gracefully presented. April 21, 2005 poor story line, negative positioning, erroneous detail The book is not fun or a joy to read, nor even sweet. As a parent I would suggest that this book only serves to promote feelings of neglect, rather than helping to resolve them. As for the story, there is hardly one here. We read many books to our children---I tried to stick this one out, but it is boring and dull, and by pre-supposing a problem, may even cause one. I couldn't read further having read "every night, just before the sun goes down, it reaches out its rays and touches every star in the universe". What utter tripe. Children are smart and reasoning people, to cloud their interpretation of the Universe around them with this rubbish is educationaly dangerous. Unfortunately we also bough The Kissing Hand at the same time. We never even bothered to read this and have dumped them both. December 7, 2004 A wonderful picturebook Chester Raccoon has a problem. His younger brother Ronny plays on Chester's swings, talks to Chester's friends, and follows Chester wherever Chester goes. When Chester complains about all this, his mother explains with gentle understanding that Ronny is only doing what little brother do and gives Chester a reassuring kiss in the middle of his palm to assure him of his mother's love. The Chester sees Ronny also gets their mother a kiss on the hand. Chester is simply overwhelmed at the unfairness of it all and tears roll down his cheek. Mother Raccoon allays Chester's fears with her own special kind of wisdom and finds just the right way to let Chester know how deeply he is loved. Charmingly written by Audrey Penn and superbly illustrated by Barbara Leonard Gibson, A Pocket Full Of Kisses is a wonderful picturebook that deftly explores the feelings of young children when their families expand with siblings and they feel unsure of their new and changing rolls. Enthusiastically recommended! September 28, 2004 A Sweet Tale A very sweet story to help the often traumatic adjustment of a new baby or new family member into a household. Mother Raccoon explains that she has more than enough love to go around and that a mother's love is like the sun, even when we don't see it, it will never run out of light and its rays will never stop reaching out to them. His mother then reminds Chester of his new and special role as a big brother. Wonderful read! June 7, 2004 A delightful story about raccoons and love. As a book reviewer for Funseeker's Radio Network I come across a lot of delightful children's book, but this one has to be in the top ten. A mother raccoon has two cubs, with Chester being the older. His mother gives him a kiss in his hand, a "kissing hand" and he is delighted, until he sees her give one to his baby brother. His mother lets him know that he is loved just as much as his brother and that she has enough love for both of them. The illustrations by Barbara Leonard Gibson are some of the best I have seen and remind me of Harry, my own pet raccoon I had when I was younger. This book needs to be bought in pairs, one for the adult buying it and one or more for the children who will love the story and the message it gives.
