1, 2, 3 to the Zoo (The World of Eric Carle) Review
User Submitted 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo (The World of Eric Carle) ReviewsDecember 15, 2008 not a real book, false advertising this was advertised as a counting book, it is in fact a colouring book. what a rip off. October 30, 2008 Educational and fun My 13 months old daughter loves this book; I have borrowed it from a library and it became such an indispensable favorite of our bedtime routine that I had to buy it. My daughter and I enjoy the beautiful watercolors - vivid, crisp and not too busy to distract a very young reader, and she has an especially great fun in finding a little brown mouse hidden among the zoo animals on each picture. She does not count yet, but for an older child this book can provide a lot of additional fun with counting animals on each of the 10 train-cars and seeing them all safely unloaded in the zoo. July 9, 2008 Not much in this one This is one of Carle's books that are suited more for toddlers than older kids. There aren't many words, just a count of the various animals on their way to the zoo. Because of this, and because the book is oversized and hard to read/shelve, it may be better to buy this in board book format - or, given the minimal content, to skip it altogether. April 28, 2008 My toddler loves this book! This is a great book! I'm surprised it says for 4-8, I think younger would be perfect! We've had this book since my daughter was 1, she's 2 now, and she loves it! We talk about counting, sounds, names, colors, so many concepts in here, it's great! April 7, 2008 Nice Counting Book My 3 year old likes this book as part of her at home preschool curriculum. It only counts up to ten, but I thought we'd try it just to add something to our usual math books. We don't just read straight through though, we interact with each other and the book by discussing as we go along. Today was the first time we read it & she had me read it twice. I would recommend it for anyone who likes Eric Carle's artistic style and is looking for a simple counting book for a young child. January 9, 2008 This is a coloring book! They describe this as being a board book with great illustrations, but it's not. It's a coloring book! I was very disappointed when receiving this in the mail because we're big Eric Carle fans and I was expecting to find a book of his colorful characters and numbers. A real let down. March 18, 2007 19 Month Old Loves It, Getting Interested in Numbers 1, 2,3 TO THE ZOO has been a big hit at our house. The board book editions of Eric Carle's books that we have tried have all been excellent. 1, 2,3 TO THE ZOO gives us a number of things to talk about as we flip through the pages: - 10 different zoo animals: introduced one by one, and then you can look for them on the last page, which shows all in the zoo - Numbers: introduced one by one, so that you can acount the number of animals on each page. There are also many beautiful numbers on the inside cover pages, which my toddler loves to look at. - A train: the first page shows an engine, and you see the boxcars with animals getting added at the bottom of each page, until the last page when all the cars are empty - The little mouse that appears on each page: a totally inspired addition by Carle, as our baby loves to look for the mouse on each page Our toddler seems increasingly interested in numbers, and this book seems like a great way to feed that interest. We have had the book for three weeks, so it is not brand new, and he currently asks to read 1, 2,3 TO THE ZOO three to four times a day. November 3, 2006 My daughter likes it. My daughter really likes this book. She likes all the books that we have by Eric Carle. My only complaint is, I wish it had more words. There isn't any story to it at all. It's just counting. But maybe it's that simplicity that my 2 1/2 yr old likes. Overall, I have to say good book because it is something she will sit and listen to. October 31, 2006 Average This book is average. My daughter doesn't really like it...nothing in the book catches her attention. October 24, 2005 A Pleasant Surprise When we got this book, wasn't sure it was going to be much, but loved Eric Carle. Was pleasantly surprised how much my son (18 months) loved it. He enjoys all of the different animals and counting them - and the little mouse. He especially loves the big fold out drawing at the end and pointing to everything we saw on the train. I love the simplicity of it because I can suppliment additional info on the animals based on his experience! For more 1, 2, 3 to the Zoo (The World of Eric Carle) reviews click here.
